PC Technician

Summary:

Diagnose desktop hardware and software technical issues and resolve these issues while working with manager to recommend solutions for more complex issues.  Travel to client’s site and assist users with hardware, software and network difficulties in a LAN/WAN environment.   Resolve reported problems, analyze network/desktop/application issues, implement solutions and document problem resolutions.  Be available to assist during "off hours" in the event of an emergency.  Software management including maintaining and upgrading a variety of commercial and public domain software packages on multiple platforms (Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT & XP), hardware maintenance and troubleshooting.  Assist with network wiring issues as needed.   Keep systematic records of hardware and software data.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to: (Other duties may be assigned)

  • Provide help desk/telephone support to end users,
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, repair and upgrade PC’s and peripherals,
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair and upgrade all Microsoft Operating Systems (Windows 9x, NT, 2000 and XP),
  • Support and provide technical assistance for a multitude of software vendors including but not limited to Microsoft, Adobe, Symantec, etc.,
  • Perform outsourced contract and off-site technical/network support duties as assigned,
  • Respond quickly to client’s requests for support by providing professional and competent service,
  • Maintain the support documentation for both internal and external (clients) systems,
  • Must possess excellent communication skills and be self-motivated,
  • Keep abreast of technology, looking for ways to improve efficiency.  Test new hardware and software in a test-bed environment before it is deployed.

Work Hours:

Full-time:
Business Hours – 8:30am to 5:30pm M-F
Extend hours when required



Qualifications:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 



Education and/or Experience:

The ideal candidate will possess:
 
  • Some college course work or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum education of a 2-year technical degree in related field.
  • MCP and 1 year in technical or help desk role preferred.
  • A+ Certification (or equivalent) or be able to obtain it within 6 months of employment.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Physical Demands:  Requires the ability to lift large, heavy objects such as laser printers and displays over 50 pounds, and crawl under desks, use ladder to access building wiring.
